The event, officially named "Sea of Champions", is part of the celebrations for the foundation of Loreto. Martin Inzunza Tamayo, Director of FONMAR, and Loreto's newly elected Mayor Paz del Alma Ochoa Amador emphasized the importance of events like these in promoting Loreto as a prime destination for sportfishing. The tournament not only offers excitement for anglers but also helps boost tourism and local business in the region.
Registration and Prize Breakdown
Teams can register on Saturday, October 5th at the API esplanade, with a registration fee of 5,000 pesos per team of up to four anglers. The competition offers impressive cash prizes, divided as follows:
- First Prize for the Dorado category: 250,000 pesos
- Second Prize: 100,000 pesos
- Third Prize: 50,000 pesos
Additionally, a 100,000-peso prize will be awarded for the catch-and-release Marlin category, encouraging sustainable fishing practices.
A Culinary Twist
As part of the foundation festivities, a gastronomy contest will be held alongside the tournament. Participating restaurants will compete to create the best dish featuring Dorado caught during the event. The winner of this culinary competition will receive 15,000 pesos for the best recipe. This adds an extra layer of excitement for both participants and spectators, offering a chance to indulge in Loreto’s rich flavors.
